Today, I am going to show you how I beautified one of my notebook covers with stunning gold foil. I added one of my all-time favorite quotes to the notebook.

Here's the quote:

“Enjoy the journey. What you learn and who you become by the time you reach the finish line matters more than the finish itself.”

If you'd like to follow along and apply a gold foil quote of your choice to your notebook, I have a step-by-step YouTube video explaining my secret technique. With this method, you won't have to worry about making mistakes on your favorite notebook cover.

Here is a summarized version of each step:

  1. Design Sketch:
    • Begin by selecting a meaningful quote.
    • Plan where to break lines for a balanced design.
    • Start writing the quote in Copperplate script while ensuring readability.
  2. Trace Design:
    • Use a thin black marker to trace over the design.
    • Carefully erase any pencil marks for a clean look.
  3. Prepare Acetate & Size Check:
    • Visit a local print shop to obtain a black and white copy on clear acetate.
    • Adjust the size of the copy to match the dimensions of your planner.
    • Trim away any unnecessary edges from the acetate sheet.
  4. Position Materials:
    • Ensure the surface is clean and free of debris.
    • Position the gold foil sheet beneath the acetate, ensuring that all letters fit within the gold sheet's dimensions.
    • Use washi tape to secure the acetate & gold foil sheet.
  5. Heat Pen:
    • Plug in your gold foil pen and allow it some time to heat up.
    • Verify that you have the correct gold foiling sheet for your project.
  6. Transfer Design:
    • Carefully go over the design on the acetate sheet with the heated pen.
    • Write the entire quote on the acetate sheet.
    • When all is done, take off the acetate sheet only.
  7. Finish Foiling:
    • Foil the design one more time from the gold sheet to your planner.
    • If necessary, lift the edge of the gold sheet to verify complete foiling on the planner itself.
  8. Peel Away:
    • The moment you've been waiting for—peel away the gold sheet (the best ASMR šŸ˜‡) to reveal your beautifully foiled design!

Creating my notebook is important to me because as I personalize and beautify it, I'm more motivated to use it, which leads to more writing!

I hope you find delight in embellishing your notebook or planner covers. Remember to savor every moment of the creative process.
